REA endorses Turner for mayor

The Racine Education Association, which represents more than 1,600 educators, has endorsed Rep. Bob Turner's mayoral candidacy.

An REA statement said it based its support on Turner's "outstanding voting record in support of public schools over the years. Bob will play a crucial role in revitalizing city leadership, supporting sensible economic development, and helping students and their families prosper.”

“Quality, affordable education is a cornerstone of healthy communities, and I look forward to continuing our work to build a stronger Racine,” Turner said.

The May 5 election ballot pits Turner, D-Racine, 61st District, against John Dickert and write-in candidate Jody Harding.

If you like him so much, why don't you endorse Dickert for Mayor so he can fix Racine and let Turner at the state level so he can continue to be your puppet? At least that way Racine's future has a chance.

REA Endorses Turner.. DO you need another reason If you think the Unions and the especially the TEACHERS UNION have made Racine a better place then please vote for Bob Turner. If you are actually awake and realize that these twins have wrecked all of the old character of RACINE!

JODY Harding didn't get their endorsement, (Whew!) And therefore you know the best solution for Racine over the next 2 years is Jody for Mayor.

  4. Well there's a reason to support Dickert.

  5. I heard the ballot for their vote said "Bob Turner or someone else."

Dustin, Pete... perhaps you can figure this out.

  9. Notice they did not say anything on why he would be a good mayor.

  10. Very few REA members bother to turn in the "ballots" they are given for such endorsements. Many do not live within the city of Racine -- or even this county -- and have no interest in what happens in Racine. Sad but true.

The PAC voted to endorse Turner based on what the AFL CIO was doing and his voting record on education and labor.

  11. Another example of the stupidity of some Racinians....Please for the love of this community, watch a mayor forum and use your head! How can anyone vote for Turner?!? And while we are at it let's remove this clown from Madison!

  13. Per REA’s letter to teachers:

    1. Dickert was not interviewed by REA
    2. Dickert was not offered an interview by REA
    3. None of Dickert’s positions were shared with teachers
    4. Turner’s labor record was the basis for REA’s decision
    5. Schools and education were not part of REA’s decision
    6. Turner was the only name on the ballot for teachers to select an endorsee

Jimmy Hoffa is alive and well, and living in Racine.

  14. This is one teacher who is not voting for Turner. We were told a week ago that the REA was endorsing Turner. They put that directly in our mail slot. If we objected, we had to turn that in directly to a union rep-not putting it in a mail slot.

  16. IS IT TRUE THAT OUR LAST TWO(2) MAYORS ARE ENDORSING BOB TURNER????? I HEARD THAT THE OTHER DAY.

  17. I am writing in Jody. I can not bring myself to vote for either of the two other candidates. This city needs to trim waste. We get a handle on the debt and in two years we will be in a better place.
