All this time, Greg Helding thought he was unopposed for re-election to his District 11 City Council seat. Made his campaign for mayor against 10 opponents that much less stressful.
Well, that was then, this is now. Gloria Rogers, 66, who ran unsuccessfully for the council in 2005 and 2007, announced today that she is running a write-in campaign to unseat Helding, who has held the aldermanic seat for four years. Rogers says she is a semi-retired owner of a house cleaning service, and decided to run for the council after Helding announced his candidacy for mayor. Helding beat her in 2007, 349 to 188.
The job pays $6,900 a year. Helding said today he is optimistic about his chances in both races.
This is old news Dustin. Gloria has been running since January. Your boss Lumpkin put her up to it. I am suprised he didn't fill you in earlier.
ReplyDeleteHey Pete stop getting your news from the Journal Times. When I want accurate news I go to the Insider News. They had this story last January. Check out:

Kudos to Ken Lumpkin for scooping you all.
Isn't that the pay for a 2 year term? Correct me if I am wrong please.
ReplyDeleteNo that's one year - the aldermen got raises recently.
ReplyDeleteIf she is retired, she should run for county board - those guys get health insurance.
ReplyDeleteFake Colt sucks at he spells better themn I do. However I know who John Galt is IMHO Keith Fair can't read
ReplyDeleteChanging subjekts. Did aanybody else get the mailing from Kim Plachee about crime. Wasnt that a Mt Plesent cop on her literture? I thought she was running for mayor of racine not mt. plesent.
ReplyDeleteI got the Plache piece too. and yes that is a Mt. Pleasant cop (which shouldn't be there anyway, they are not supposed to campaign in uniform) but it makes sense because Placeh doesn't really live in Racine, she lives in Mt. Pleasant. Which brings up another question as to how she can run for mayor if she doesn't live in Racine.
