WRJN forum now online

RacinePost helped out WRJN tonight with the first mayoral forum to include all 11 candidates competing in the April 7 primary election. It was a really well put together forum with specific questions on the issues, good discussions and some revealing responses from the candidates. Find out for yourself over at WRJN's Web site, which features the forum broken up into four parts.

Or download them with the following links:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
One quick note on the forum ... WRJN's Tom Karkow is a great moderator. He and Janet are, hands down, the hardest working journalists in Racine and they really know their city issues. If you're looking for a candidate to support, do yourself a favor and check out their forum.

One other note ... the JT didn't sponsor or get involved with any of the candidate forums leading up to next week's election. What's that about?

I listened to the debate and thought Dickert did a great job. He's got my vote

I hope Jody or Q makes it past the primary.

  3. WRJN did a GREAT job. I thought the individualized questions were a good idea. Wow, though - I couldn't believe Karas said "we're urban, we're cool, and they're not" when he was talking about Racine's surrounding communities! Not a real great way to bring people together...

  4. I thought Leisa Hill was flawless in her presentation. She stayed on message and for the first time it seemed that a candidate has the hearts of the people in my.

I like how she is speaking of building communities and not tearing them down. I believe some time we look at the façade of individuals and not look at how candidates are when they do not have a written speech in front of them.

I've had the opportunity to meet each of the candidates that running in a more relaxed setting. Hill is by far the most personable of all the candidates.

But another good-quality is that she is well educated and knowledgeable of what needs to happen to turn Racine around and put it back on the right track.

    She has my vote!

  5. I already knew Helding wants to get tough on crime. It was good to hear he has a complete vision for Racine. That sealed the deal for me. I'm voting Helding.

  6. Helding plan is tough but flawed. I do not want criminals moving into my neighborhood if they are forced to move. If he thinks they are leaving Racine he is a idiot or a fool. Neither of which we need as mayor.

Re: your comment that the JT has not yet been involved in any of these pre-primary forums.

Quite simply - community journalism isn't what it used to be and communities are poorer for it.

  8. I listened last night and have a question for John Dickert.

You talk about a ten year plan. You have said both, "I have a ten year plan" and "as soon as I get into office I will create a 10 year plan."

Do you have a plan now? If so, what is it? Please share.

  9. Criminals will leave. That is what is happening in Milwaukee - that is why we have so much trouble. If we don't step up our game, we will be Milwaukee south.

  11. I have asked, on several different websites, where are the developments, totaling $28 Million dollars, that Mr. Dickert refers to on his website as developments he was instrumental in bringing to the City of Racine? I am still looking for my candidate. John, I'm sure you and/or your consultants read the JT blogs, will someone respond to this simple question?

  12. I am sure John has more important things to do than respond to other candidates, or their workers (Joyce Smith looking in your general direction) on blogs.

  13. Josh -

He has better things to do than to respond to legitimate questions about major claims about his record?

  14. I’m voting for Turner because I’m in the union and the union says vote for Turner so I’m voting for Turner.

  15. Anon. 2:30 PM - if the union told you to jump off a bridge, would you do that too? Wake up and start thinking for yourself! What has Turner done for Racine in the last 10 years? No one seems to be able to answer this question because the answer is NOTHING!
