Rain won't postpone Party on the Pavement

Somebody at DRC must be watching the Weather Channel, and not liking what they see.

That 40% chance of showers Saturday, for example, could make things miserable for musicians on the outdoor stages during Party on the Pavement.

But, DRC tells us, the show will go on -- regardless! Here's the memo:
The Downtown Racine Corporation has announced that Downtown Racine’s seventh annual Party on the Pavement event will be held this Saturday, Oct. 3, rain or shine! The family-friendly street festival goes from noon to 7 p.m. on Main and 6th Streets in Downtown Racine.

There will be live entertainment, food and refreshments, pony rides, petting zoo, Ferris Wheel, train ride, bouncy houses, face painting, clowns, children’s activities, an Art Walk on 6th Street, exhibits and more. There will be events both outside and inside the stores, galleries and restaurants.

  1. I have just one question:WHY? When we herd people into the streets, we're asking for trouble. The pickpockets, muggers and other digital discount specialists will have a field day.

  4. I meet more nice people than "usual" at this event. As for problems, I've missed those as well.

  5. Anon 3:55 & Anon 6:20. Thanks for your myopic insights on an overwhelmingly positive event. Do us all a favor and stay home on Saturday.

  6. I've gone to this event every year and not once have I've seen drunken behavior. This is a great event for all ages and all ethnic groups. Any negative comments are from those who have never attended. In addition to the fun, food and entertainment, there are a number of non-profits with booths that need our support.

  7. I have one question...why is no one mentioning the dismal condition of the street? If i were an attorney, i would be licking my chops for negligencies all up and down sixth st.Why is the art walk still taking applications way past the mid august deadline? This was supposed to be a juried show, at i thought it was. I plunked down fifty bucks last week.I am now regretting it not because of weather, but because of the condition of the sixth st. Are the downtown guys expecting people to show up in spite of inclement weather and still mangled up street and sidewalks?

  8. Dear 8:10 A.M., Thank you for the wise advice. During an economic downturn, events of this type are invitations to trouble. When trouble shows up, please don't blame me for predicting its presence. (Years ago, folks connected with the Detroit Renaissance Project staged such a shindig to boost business. Alas, the gangs poured into Motown's downtown and reaped a harvest of wallets, watches, gold chains and other goodies.)

  9. dear 5:53 A.M., I'd rather be a smart donkey with a good sense of humor than a dense and dumb pachyderm which voted the straight Rich-Pig-lican ticket.

  10. 10:39 - as long as you don't show up, there won't be any problems.

  11. I went down there yesterday and was expecting some real progress in getting the street at least half way decent, but nope still looks like street and sidewalks under repair....The photos from last years events shows sunny skies and sixth st.looking normal. I am very concerned about a turnout, not even thinking about gangs coming in and causing trouble like i heard that happened at the fourth of july fireworks viewing areas at the beaches north of the rooot river.

  12. If it is a nice day, people will come out in droves. Get real, a little of construction is not going to hold people back. So many excuses. If you don't want to go, just shut up and stay home.

  13. I thought that the DRC said the street would be ready?

  14. Well i just came from sixth st. and it is getting cleaned up, looking better than it did about 5 pm yesterday. I am going to be there hoping to make some art sales. I just know that after a low pressure center gets north east of us we get the backside rains and winds. Insulated undies anyone?

  19. 2:24 - this is old trite news. The liquor license had nothing to do with ethnic background, although I believe it should have been granted. It had to do with how many of that type of license's available - get over it and get back on subject.

  21. Dear 10:45 A.M. Don't worry. I wouldn't be caught dead at that muggers' market. If you go, be careful!
