Dickert campaign releases campaign message, makes clean campaign commitment

John Dickert's campaign put out a press release announcing its campaign message and making a "clean campaign" commitment to Turner. Here's the release:
John Dickert announced today that his campaign will focus on the central theme of “Top Ten in Ten,” a concept devoted to the notion that Racine has all of the elements in place to become a top ten US city in which to live and work within ten years or less.

“Our city’s lack of family supporting jobs, high crime and poor housing are all problems that can and will be resolved when we as a community set the ambitious long-term goal of Racine as a top ten city in ten years,” said Mr. Dickert, currently a successful Racine-based real estate agent and redevelopment specialist. “It is my feeling that our decisions in the past were based on a culture of ‘band-aid’ approaches to governing without a central, cohesive plan with measurable goals for success.”

John Dickert finished first in the 11-way mayoral primary. Dickert believes this was achieved by focusing on a positive message and stressing the need for a long-term city-wide strategic plan, which serves to direct both the planning efforts of the city department heads as well as focus independent community organizations.

“I’ve spoken with Representative Turner who indicated that he shared my goal for a clean, issues-oriented campaign.” Mr. Dickert continued. “In order for this city to be able to move forward on the positive track to a bright future, it is essential that we set aside the old, tired ways of “politics as usual” and focus on the issues that are critical to our city.”

About John Dickert:
As a community member, John Dickert has worked to make our neighborhoods a better place. As our mayor, John will do the same for the city of Racine.

As a community activist, real estate agent and redevelopment expert, John Dickert worked to clean up Racine’s neighborhoods by converting former drug havens into family homes.

In the private sector, John has brought more than $28,000,000 in new development and dozens of new jobs to the city of Racine.

As a former congressional aide and government relations director, John has extensive and successful history working with agencies in both Madison and Washington DC, which is critical to bringing new resources both public and private into Racine.

  3. Turner Rocks! He will be the best mayor of the two. A nice guy. extensive experience , a veteran, and he knows city hall.

  4. No to Dickert and Turner4/15/2009 9:08 AM

Dickert is friends with Becker, and that bothers me. We need a write in candidate, and NOT carpetbagger Plache.

  5. I disagree with you anon 8:44. John is going to be a great mayor for the city.

Penny, I guess that should go both ways. Knowing some of the names on the Turner campaign I'd worry the most about that group. People like Jim & Joyce Smith and Craig Oliver are known for dirty campaign tactics. I don't think Turner himself would do anything like that, but the people he is surrounding himself with would.

  6. Dickert has not been a friend of Becker's in years. Even if he were, Becker hid his child porn interests from everyone. As a mayor, Becker didn't do a terrible job, it was his personal life that was bad.

It looks like the Turner campaign strategy is going to be trying to tie Becker and Dickert together huh? I really wish Joyce Smith and her friends would get off these blogs.

  7. Write-in campaigns don't work. All they do is take votes away from someone else. Like in the Becker/Ron Thomas mayoral election 6 years ago. If Jim Smith hadn't done his write-in campaign who know, maybe Ron Thomas would have won.

  8. I am so glad to read that Turner's campaign is throwing dirt.

I guess they will say or do anything to be elected.

I guess a person, not involved in the campaign cannot have an opinion? Turner has been my families rep in Madison all my life and I cannot think of one thing he has done to make Racine a better place to live. I go to Parkside and all I hear is what a piece of trash my city is. I want to remain by my family after I graduate, but with his track record that will be impossible. Dickert has flaws, but at least he will not be a empty chair in office.

  10. sure dickert can say he is going to run a clean campaign but can he say he's not like becker and doesn't have anything to do with under aged kids either?

A RIGHT IN campaign can work, especially here, and especially now.
May 5th will have only ONE thing on the ballot, the 2 finalist are the same side of the Left coin. Neither has called for control of spending, they both support building KRM which is 300 Million dollars we don't have and 10-25 Million a year to continue operating costs. I know if Jody Harding is Written in by enough of us, she will serve, and she will control spending, and she WILL stand up against the KRM expansion, and work to improve the current Bus system. It's only for 2 years, what do we have to lose, a Mayor that will control spending or 2 guys who will grasp every crazy plan that comes along and raise all of our taxes? Easy decision for me.

Today is Tax Day, Today is the TEA Party (Taxed Enough Already). On Saturday there will be a Racine TEA party in front of City Hall on the Green. If you really think Dickert or Turner will be different than Doyle or Obama, spending much more than we can afford, and raising taxes and fees everywhere, then sit back and do nothing. OR CHANGE it!!! Write-in Jody Harding on May 5th and lets takes this City back. We only need about 3-4,000 votes to stop the Lefty Cabal from from winning the Tri-fecta. Join me tell your friends don't be negative..this is do-able!
Surely there is 4000 Right minded people in RACINE, isn't there??

  13. Dickert is married and his wife is by his side all the time, unlike Becker and his wife. You never saw the Beckers together. I would not compare the two at all, there is no comparison.

  14. Urban, you are dreaming if you think Jody Harding can win. You are throwing your vote away if you do that.

This is clearly NOT throwing a vote away. It makes very little difference to me if Turner or Dickert wins there really is NO difference. I heard people say that about Obama and McCain, and that was just idiotic...But here you have 2 guys surround on all 4 sides by different groups of Lefties.

Jody Harding is COMPLETELY different in her philosophy..She's Common sense and Constitution First. JODY will OPPOSE the KRM, and look to less expensive and more affordable (to taxpayers), Options. JODY will control spending and fight City Hall to keep our taxes under control.

A Few year ago Milwaukee County threw out most of the County Board and got Scott Walker as a fiscal conservative in Milwaukee County!!

We can do it here too..The time to act is in these unusual turnout elections. I don't think the Jody voter is even gonna show up to vote for Dickert or Turner..Why bother.. But if they can get behind a RIGHT IN, Then Jody has a chance, or at least they can express there opposition to the No Choice ..Choice.
I am not Joyce Smith, nor have I ever met or spoken to Joyce Smith, I have met Jim Smith, but I am not here doing his bidding. I, and others, are doing our own bidding, and encouraging Jody and all of the "Right" leaning citizens left in Racine to get out and WRITE in her Name!! This is a Grass roots effort. I have had many enthusiastic responses to this effort.
I know Jody was attending the TEA party in Madison today, and will be joining us at Racine City Hall on Saturday at Noon. If u want to hear something different, come and see what Jody is standing for. Also look at Jodyformayor.com. Send Jody an e-mail and let her no you will write her in!!

For all of you who believe we can't stop the Socialists NOW is the time to make a difference. We will have no other good options until Walker runs against Doyle next year...WE can make it happen hear. But u will need to be VOCAL, and tell your friends and e-mail buddys. I implore U, act NOW!! WRITE IN JODY HARDING!!!

  27. OK, I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!>>Anonymous said...Dickert didn't know about Becker's little girls?? Hmmmm .... Are you REALLY sure about that? 4/15/2009 4:42 PM <<

If you have evidence of something, post verifiable FACTS. Innuendo of this sort has no place here, regardless which candidate you're trashing.

Here's a thought: Try sticking to the issues, instead of anonymous character-bashing.

  28. I truly do not believe anyone around Becker knew about the child porn. Most did know about his womanizing and having affairs with woman, but not girls. Maybe it's more fun to believe otherwise so you can demonize more people, but it just isn't so.

  29. I will be pressing charges (Tresspass) if Dickert workers walk up onto my property for a vote. I swear to god they will be held until police arrive. I have big signs CLEARLY posted.

I have no interest in hearing any more "Gary Becker" type political BS regarding this city.

Mr. Dickert, you had better inform your staff to read yard signs before entering onto any private property.

And yes, Dustin of the Post is a HUGE Dickert supporter.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Urban, you are being an idiot. All you will do is ensure Turner gets elected by taking potential votes away from Dickert. I doubt any Republican votes will go to Turner.

Your candidate, Jody Harding, isn't a strong enough candidate to even dream of winning a write-in.

Smiths thought they could win a write in 6 years ago but all they did was screw up the results for other candidates.

  31. John, lighten up. Get over yourself already. Will you also hold Turner campaign workers for the police?

I'm sure it's part of the Turner campaign to paint Dickert and Becker together, but it's not the case. Smiths and Turner however, now there you have a good case.

  34. For the past 2 months I have been asking for a verification in regards to claims from Mr. Dickert's website and numerous blogs, about the $28 Million as claimed "In the private sector, John has brought more than $28,000,000 in new development and dozens of new jobs to the city of Racine." Can anyone verify where these developments are?? Were they successful? Can anyone be specific???

  36. Redevelopment Specialist? Who?
John Dickert? No way! Project John Dickert has been involved in include: 1) Pointe Blue, John claimed dozens of reservations, all smoke and mirrors, 2) River Bend Loft Condos on 6th and Marquette, 12 units sold out of 58 units, currently in foreclosure on the remaining unsold units, 3) redevelopment of apartment building at 15th and Main St. to 16 condos, after over 1 year, none are sold. Is this the track record Racine wants to showcase as our future.

  37. Let's clear up a few things, shall we?

I am close with the Becker family and I can say with absolute assurance that no one close to Gary was aware of what was going on. It is unfair to imply otherwise. It is especially unfair to imply that John Dickert, someone with whom Gary had not been close in the past few years, knew about Gary's issues.

Another blogger pointed out that some of John's developments have not sold very well in the past year. Have you been reading the paper? Watching the news? Seeing magazine covers? NOTHING is selling well.

I am hopeful that this campaign can be a good one. Let's talk about bringing jobs to the city, decreasing violent crimes, and getting Racine to where it can be.

  38. hey camp dickert. smart move having a JUNIOR IN HIGHSCHOOL working on your campaign with you!!!!
turner doesn't need the imput of kids to win unlike you

    ReplyDelete
  39. you know what the funny thing is, all you turner people out there from the campaign trying to make Dickert look bad are doing this under a title named "Dickert campaign releases campain message, makes clean campaign commitment" I see you guys are still stuck in the past which is ok becuase it's not like you've done anything for Racine anyways. Yeah, Dickert's projects aren's doing that well but at least he's out there trying to help improve our town. and last i checked there isn't a lot selling and everyone is doing bad so that has nothing to do with him, it's the ecomonic state we're in right now.

I have read the comments on this blog and am disgusted with attacks. I am going to call Bob Turner's office in Madison and ask him to stop his campaign helpers from posting such inuendo. Is this is what I want from a community leader? Is this the kind of people we want running our city? I do not think so. No wonder some people do not want this race to decide who is mayor.

If the other campaign called Bob Turner a child molestor or a thief the Turner campaign would be upset and rightfully so.

I guess the Turner campaign are old, out of date politcal hacks that are holding out for one last grasp of power. Thank you John for staying above the BS at this point. You won my vote by being a class act.

  41. Pointe Blue started in a good market and failed before the markets took a dive. It was over priced and over ambitious from the beginning and when the "developer" increased the density of housing, the final nail was driven into the coffin. River Bend Loft Condos also did not stand a chance even in a good market at the prices they were marketed at. I agree none of this is Dickert's fault, but there is reason to look at one's past if another's future is possibly to be placed in their hands. Again I ask if anyone is able to substantiate the claim "In the private sector, John has brought more than $28,000,000 in new development and dozens of new jobs to the city of Racine."
I am not a Turner fan nor a Dickert fan, I just want information to help in making a rather important decision.

  42. Actually, if i'm not mistaken i think Dickert pulled out of the point blue before things went bad. I lived close by the point blue sign outside the site and they took his name off as the relator and put someone else up.

  43. The sign with his name and phone # was there for months after the project was over. That is not significant.
