Rep. Turner joins others considering run for Mayor

Another potential candidate for Mayor is cleaning off his campaign hat, although he has not yet tossed it into the ring. Others running, or thinking about it, listed here.

State Rep. Robert Turner, D-Racine, announced today "that he is seriously considering joining the mayoral race in the wake of Mayor Gary Becker's resignation."

Turner's statement said:
Turner, a 28-year veteran of the Racine City Council, points to his experience working with four Racine mayors (Olsen, Davies, Smith and Becker) since he was first elected to the Racine Common Council in 1976. Turner left the Council in 2004.
Representative Turner stated that his extensive knowledge of the workings of Racine city government, his 15-year tenure as Chairman of the Finance and Personnel Committee, and his genuine love of Racine as motivation for his decision.

Representative Turner has also represented the City of Racine in the State Assembly since 1991. “I believe I not only have the tools, but the honesty and integrity to restore credibility and fiscal responsibility to the Mayor’s office in Racine,” said Turner.

  2. i'm curious if Mason and Turner would resign their assembly seats if elected..

i'm really having hard time believing that they would give that up to be mayor..

  3. My career dictates that RESULTS are the bottom line, only thing that matters. Consequently, I have the same expectations for people in leadership positions. What has Turner (or any of the other candidates) done to improve life in Racine? Is he working his butt off and talking to his constituants, or being complacent and allowing status-quo? He's already in a position to make a difference. Racine has such a diverse set of problems, and consequently such potential. We need the right person in this position. So far, none of the candidates have impressed me.

  5. There's a whole slew of people running and/or considering to run. We need someone, other than a current alderman. Sorry, Jody, but I don't believe you have what it takes to run the City.

  6. It would be conflict of interest for Donnie Snow to run for Mayor, since he's already a City employee. He would have to quit his job and then run. Problem is, if he doesn't win, he's out of a job.

  8. Am I the only person who can't understand what Bob Turner is saying? He needs to clear up his speech before he gets my vote.
