Racine Library may build in Mount Pleasant

Stephanie Brien at the JT is reporting that the Racine Library may spend $1.6 million to buy land to build a new Mount Pleasant branch. It didn't take long for commenters to raise questions. Here's the first response:
Wait a minute - is this the same library that is cutting hours because of financial issues? I think libraries are great, but I guess I don't quite get this idea.

  1. You didn't hear it from me, but if it is built, watch them move there permanently, and close the downtown one!

  2. I hope your Right Prio. Imagine what a great "For profit" Business could be built on the current site, Perhaps a Hotel, condo's (High End w/lake views), And a great Lake view restuarant). I've been rooting for a Library move for a long time. (Even thought I live and work near the current site. Having a "free movie" rental business, and a Computer station for teens in the downtown building, is not the best use of Lakefront pproperty. And let's face it folks it's not the most interesting architectural building despite the new addition. It's a County facility lets put it closer to the population center of Racine. Especially the people who need it most. Closer to Case High School makes more sense. Next let's move the Gateway campus somewhere west too!
