Doyle signs Mason's 'Green to Gold' loan fund into law

Gov. Jim Doyle today signed into law Senate Bill 651, which creates a so-called "Green to Gold" revolving loan fund. The $100 million in state and federal funds will be available at low interest to Wisconsin industries wishing to lower their energy costs, make "green" products and create and retain jobs.

“My top priority has been and will continue to be helping businesses create jobs and giving our workers the opportunities to get those jobs,” Doyle said at the UW-Milwaukee bill signing.

The bill, written by Rep. Cory Mason, D-Racine, and Sen. Julie Lassa, D-Stevens Point, authorizes the Department of Commerce to make loans to manufacturing businesses to adopt energy efficiency measures, retool to manufacture green products, expand or establish domestic clean energy manufacturing, and create or retain jobs in this sector.

Mason said, “This is a huge win for Wisconsin’s struggling manufacturers, for workers, and for the environment. The Green to Gold fund is a smart use of existing resources, and will leverage our state’s manufacturing base and high-skilled workforce to put people back to work, creating clean energy products.”

Mason said he'd heard from manufacturers around the state that they wanted to make their facilities more energy efficient, "but funds are scarce, and it’s hard to get financing these days. The Green to Gold fund addresses this need."

Banks don't have money to lend? But politicians do? Please spare me the BS.

Both of these guys should be voted out - one is already on his way out.

  4. Is this another one of Cory's pay off to his "Union Brother's". I can't wait to see Lehman and Mason get ousted in the up and coming election.

  6. Any chance these folks will create a plan to create jobs. The concept of green initiatives will create obviously isn't working over a year later. Throwing tons of borrowed and freshly printed Washington money with nothing behind it at the problem hasn't worked in the last year and a half.

History taught us that all the government spending didn't get us out of the great depression. Why are we repeating these mistakes and running up a massive debt in the process?

There have to be incetives to bring former US jobs back to the US. Obama promised action on this during his campaign but hasn't done anything about it since elected. As long as we send our jobs and money out of the US we will be in the same boat 10 years from now.

During the fall election cycle I hope reporters and those of us that vote will ask all candidates to clearly tell us their vision to bring back jobs and save the economy from the ruin we are currently head towards blindly.

  8. Way to go Rep. Mason! You have done many things for Racine and a better place for us to raise our kids. Keep up the good work - I know you are always thinking about meaningful jobs for Racine. Many of my friends will work hard to see that you are re-elected!
