Two Appeals Court judges endorse Herrera

Two of Wisconsin's Court of Appeals judges today endorsed Georgia Herrera in her race against Gene Gasiorkiewicz for the Circuit Court seat Stephen Simanek is vacating. (That leaves only 14 Appeals Court justices to be heard from, in this election contest that seems to focus on endorsements.) The election is April 6.

Judge Lisa Neubauer of Racine, who was appointed to the Appeals Court in 2007, District 2, which includes Racine County, said, in a press release:
“I know Georgia.  She is the right person for this important job.  Her broad experience and good judgment are needed on the bench. Georgia has the experience and temperament to be an excellent judge.  As a prosecutor, court commissioner, and attorney in private practice, Georgia knows her way around all of the Racine County courtrooms.  She will be fair, firm and consistent, and will manage the court room effectively.  She will serve us well as Circuit Court judge.”
Judge Paul Higginbotham, a District 4 Appeals Court justice in Madison since 2003, said in a press release:
"I know Georgia Herrera well. She has great experience and judgment, and the highest ethical standards. I worked with Georgia in an early part of her career, when we were trying cases for Milwaukee’s Legal Aid Society. She tried many cases to the jury and excelled at it. She knows the court room well. I know she continued that work as a criminal prosecutor for Racine County, trying hundreds of cases and helping protect the public from crime. She opened her law practice, and then began her lengthy service as circuit court commissioner, preparing herself for the duties of circuit court judge. I know, as a former Dane County Circuit Court judge and now judge on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, that her work as court commissioner is an invaluable experience to help prepare a judge to serve at the Circuit Court. I strongly support Georgia Herrera’s candidacy for Judge, and urge all of Racine County to vote for her.”
For those keeping score, four Racine County Circuit Court judges endorsed Gasiorkiewicz on Monday; three endorsed Herrera last Thursday; and one more endorsed Gasiorkiewicz last Thursday. Three are yet to be heard from.

  1. Well that certainly defines it. Lisa Neubauer (any relation to Jeff? Oh could be!) Demoratic shill and a Left coast Madison Judge.
Cool - Gene gets my vote.

  2. This is where it gets interesting. Don't think you're not seeing some Neubauer style politics coming from the Herrera campaign. Maybe a lot. Then ask why?

  3. I have had it with Jeff Neubauer handpicking candidates for office and using his influence to try and get them elected.

He's losing his touch. This is the man behind the sloppy Plache campaign to run for School Board and Mayor, whisking her to a downtown apartment so she could end up voting illegally...

He's been picking the school board candidate slate to support which has worked out swell (sarcasm intended) and now Herrera slinging mud before she checks her facts.

No more cronies, no more political pals and bad candidates dressed up to fool the public. I want less politics not MORE!

Vote for Gene, no one owns him.

  4. I would vote for the opposite opponent of anyone a Neubauer endorses. They are as left as they come.

  5. Democrats don't want to vote for Neubauer's candidates anymore either!

  6. This is a sign all stops are being pulled out. The Wizard has come out from behind the curtain. Things cannot be going well for Herrera.

  7. Pete and Dustin sure like to give her press. I wonder who they are voting for????

  8. Anon 1:58 Wonder all you want. We post news here, from both sides.

  9. Actually this is very valuable for Gene. The more that Georgia trots out the old guard pols to support her increasingly desparate campaign the more Gene gets support. Georgia, please stay on script because we are getting a good view of your real style. It seems I see more signs for Gene very time something like this comes out.

  11. I am supporting Georgia because she is clearly the best candidate. I am focused on qualifications and not on endorsements. I have done the research and think that Georgia will be an excellent judge based on her qualifications and NOT on her endorsements. Why don't we all spend time on something meaningful instead of wasting time feeling powerful through these anonymous posts? As for the Post publishing these latest endorsements, they've been publishing for both candidates all along so go find something else to complain about. Go Team Herrera!

  12. Wonderful - this information helped me make the final decision - I am voting for Georgia. Her broad based support is indicative of her past performance as a DA, Court Commissioner and private practice attorney and is equally indicative of her future success as a judge. These folks have worked closely with Georgia over the years, this says a lot. I am done listening to all the rhetoric, Herrera has earned my vote.

  13. TO 5:43 pm anon - The only one that is pathetic here is YOU. We have two candidates that put themselves out there, ultimately to try and make a difference in this community - and all you can do is hide behind some curtain and bash. Why don't you stay on message, talk about what your candidate of choice brings to the table, and stop bashing the candidate that you don't align with? You're desperate, that's why. Again, these are good people that are running for judge, and you're the one who is seriously pathetic.

  14. My support is for Herrera all the way - she is proven and has earned my support, no doubt in my mind.

  15. Georgia Herrera's qualifications are far superior to her opponent, particularly when we are looking at who is most qualified to be Racine COunty's next judge. I am proud to be supporting and voting for Georgia.

  16. I am aligning with the 6:21 PM comment regarding 'pathetic' - it's pretty desperate, low and underhanded to drag Lisa Neubauer through the mud now. Lisa is an outstanding judge! Interesting, if the bloggers would turn their obvious bitterness and jealousy into positive energy they may be able to make a difference in this community or even make their own lives more successful. Pathetic is a perfect word for those stooping to these levels.

  17. Herrera is clearly more qualified for this role, Gene's campaign is looking pretty desperate at this point.

  18. You early bloggers on this post are disgusting. At the end of the day, it's not your ridiculous posts that make a bit of difference. Voters can see through the games you're playing here. Nice try

  19. Why does it seem like all the posts in favor of Herrera are written by the same person?

Qualifications over endorsements lead you to support Herrera? That's hilarious, must be today's new talking point. Last week's failed completely, no one bought the misrepresenting his past line either.

  20. I am in favor of Herrera - she is no nonsense and will do an outstanding job as Racine's next judge!

  21. I attended a judicial forum where Gene misrepresented his qualifications - talk about stretching the truth - he created trucking law AND solely created a legal education program for school kids - give me a break. Gene's misrepresentations aren't worth my time - however, don't think they go unnoticed, people get it.

  22. Let me quote Georgia direct from the JT's interview. "I don't presume to think I should make plans for when I'm judge". "If I am elected by the voters (I'm not quite sure who else would elect her) I would be very hard working to learn all I need to know to be the best judge." She sounds like she's running for High School Freshman class president. The JT's also goes on to say, "she doesn't have any concrete ideas or plans of what she would do if elected. These comments are beyond comprehension. Georgia has no business being judge or any other elected position based on these comments.
