Ranking our lawmakers: Who's the most ...

We've circled Paul Ryan...he's firmly in the 'conservative' enclave
Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Who's the most conservative of them all?
Or the most liberal?

National Journal has done all the work for us, rating all Senate and House members on economic, social and foreign issues, and comparing one to another. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, it turns out, is the most liberal member of the House -- well, she's in a nine-way tie for that ... um, honor? Opprobium? Depends on you, I guess. Moore is also the 423rd most conservative.

And how do Paul Ryan, Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl rank?

Ryan, R-WI, 1st District, is the 89th most conservative of the 435 House members -- or the 342nd most liberal. He's not the most conservative of Wisconsin's representatives; that distinction goes to Menomonee Falls Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-WI, 5th District, who is the House's 58th most conservative member and its 370th most liberal.

Sen. Kohl ranks 32nd most liberal and 66th most conservative of the 100 Senators; Sen. Feingold is 55th most liberal and 44th most conservative.

Overall, the state's congressional delegation is rated solidly centrist.

  1. You failed to point out how Gwen Moore (Hemember her? Her son was convicted of slashing the tires of Republican vans on election day) is the 1st most liberal.

  2. Thank you for re-enforcing my plan to vote for Paul Ryan. The liberals have again proven to be tax and spend, but now have added exceesive debt to their legacy. I admit that the Bush debt was bad. Under the last three years of democrat control of congress and over a year of Obama the debt is soaring like never before. Obama and company can no longer hang this on Bush. For nearly three years they have had majority control and over a year they have had everything they now own it for sure. For the most part Bush lost control in January of 2007 so the old story of this is all Bush's mess just doesn't cut it for many of us.

  3. Bush's unfunded wars, unfunded drug plan, and unfunded tax cuts ballooned the deficit in an unsurpassed way. SOME of Obama's points are valid. A lot on his plate is Bush's legacy. He also needed to save the economy from the brink, which was expensive. At least he is trying to have health care initiatives pay for themselves. The deficit panel may be okay. Not perfect, but he is trying to be more fiscally responsible. Bush didn't even try to do that for at least 6 of his term years.

  6. ANON 916 Tell me then how is that the federal government had record intake of revenue during the three years after the Bush Tax cuts? Remember the Dems voted for the wars too.

I agree that Bush was too liberal of a spender but OBAMA makes Bush look like a fiscal conservative.

    How's that stimulus working? NOT!

Who's going to pay for the OBAMA healthcare rape job?

Face it, OMAMA doesn't have a freaking clue. He's way in over his head as are most of Congress.

OMAMA wants all Americans to be dependent on government via handouts and entitlements.

    We are screwed.

  7. Pete: The graphic should be labeled as such (House only). The article references Kohl and Feingold a lot. Someone might make the assumption they are part of the image (although the link provides more info).

  8. Paul Ryan also has the best hair in Congress. Other than that, however, he is just another Bush re-tread spouting the same tired right wing rhetoric that got us into this economic mess. Good hair though...

  9. Pete is the biggest Liberal.

I'm still trying to figure out why or who asked him to serve soup tomorrow?

I thought only "Racine celebrities" were asked to serve soup. Exactly how does a ho-dunk reporter fit in?

They must have done ran out of celebs in this one horse town mister....lol.

  10. 6:06 - Typical liberal gibberish. It's all about what someone looks like. This is why it is so difficult to eradicate prejudice in this world. Thanks again liberals.

  11. 8:51,

The Healthcare Bill currently in play in the Senate will pay for itself. That is who is going to pay for the "Obama rape" plan. This is according to the non-partisan CBO.

If revenues where so high from 2001-2009, why also were there record debts then? Despite record revenues, the debt to your children (assuming you can attract a mate) is very high.

  12. Bush is no angel, that's a given. But, liberals, let's look at a few facts:

    a) Bush has a 500 billion dollar deficit towards the end of his second term. Democrats blame Bush ENTIRELY for this, even though the Democrats controlled Congress for the last THREE years of Bush’s term; which means they not only approved Bush's budget and spending bills but also added to them.

    b) The Democratic congress forces Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac to make sub-prime variable rate home mortgage loans to people who they KNOW can't pay them if the prime interest rate goes up; which it did. This caused a major deficit in the mortgage industry and Bush (and the Democratic majority running Congress) spend $800 billion dollars on mortgage loan bail outs. This now increases the federal deficit to 1.3 trillion dollars. (Thank you very much George W. Bush AND the Democratic controlled Congress!)

    c) Then along came Obama and his national socialist crowd, which continues to add to the deficit by bailing out two automobile mega-corporations (because of their bad business decisions) and the banking industry (because of their bad business decisions). Now the deficit has almost tripled from what Bush and the Democrats left us.

    d) Obama continues to spend, spend, spend on programs that are supposed to create jobs. Then they are caught red-handed lying about it.

    e) Then Obama and his national socialists try to get control of 1/6 of the U.S. economy by the socialization of health care. There is no argument that health care costs are out of control. But rather than addressing the REAL issues of why health care is so expensive, they try to take control of it and place an additional three trillion dollars, or more, of a tax burden on the people.

    f) Then to top it all off, Obama holds a State of the Union Address and says we need to tighten our belts and live within our means. Then the very next day the newspaper headlines read that the Democrats in congress have approved his additional 1.9 trillion dollar request for even more money.

Where does this end? Certainly not with Paul Ryan either. He has shown himself to be nothing more than a career politician just like the rest of them!
