YPR Members & Friends,
After 3 years with Young Professionals of Racine, I have decided to make some changes in my life. I am planning to go back to school this fall for a Global Studies Masters Program in Europe! Prior to that, I've decided to spend the summer in Italy with my boyfriend (who is stationed there in the Army), and with all these plans I am announcing my resignation as Program Director of Young Professionals of Racine. My time with YPR has been rewarding and challenging and I'm so grateful for all the lessons I've learned and friends and colleagues that I've met. YPR seeking new program director
YPR Program Director Dana Grueter is leaving the organization after three years on the job. Here's the message she sent out to members Monday:

This is sort of like the taxpayers association. They seem to exist, hold forums, but we never here from them until the next election! Who are they and what do they do? Could I start a group and hold forums too? Besides, aren't all the professionals in Racine old dudes????

ReplyDeleteYou couldn't be further from the truth regarding what YPR does. To set the record straight, I used to be involved with YPR, but no longer am.
YPR provides social, professional development and networking opportunities for Young Professionals in Racine. In 2008, it started a rotating professional development series, rotating monthly events around speed networking, professional development lunch n learns and Executive Breakfasts, where many of Racine's leaders speak to the organizations members about what they do and what it took for them to get in their current position.
YPR also provides volunteer opportunities for young professionals here in Racine. Just last year, at it's anniversary celebration, $6,600 worth of gifts and monetary donations were distributed to four non-profit organizations here in Racine. Not bad for a night's work for a "taxpayers association."
Through the leadership of Roger Caron, Dana Grueter and her predecessor, Dawn Lingo, YPR is considered to be one of the most succesful young professional chapters in the country.
And lest we not forget that it does offer social events for young professionals, many of whom might be new to the community and not sure how to get involved. But when John Doe is interviewing with Modine, for example, and asks why he should consider Racine rather than Cleveland, Philadelphia or Boston, that recruiter instantly has a way for the interviewer to get involved in the community and feel more like Racine is home, rather than a stopping point along his professional path.
What a great person, I personally find her warm and knowledgeable in a lot of areas. The best the luck in your future endeavors.
