A movie poster showing Johnny Depp in "Public Enemies"hangs in the Racine Police Department's lobby.
Wary of sounding like Alanis Morissette and misusing the word "ironic," does anyone find it strange that the Racine Police Department has a display in its lobby highlighting a famous bank robber?
I bring it up now because now there's a large movie poster for "Public Enemies" next door to the case displaying a gun used when John Dillinger robbed a Racine bank at 5th and Main (the current Racine Art Museum).
It's a cool display and poster, but it's a bit odd to see police displaying the work of a criminal. It may even be, well, ironic.

ReplyDeleteWhat funding? The exhibit is in a glass case in the lobby and has been there for decades. The Tommy Gun was stolen from a Racine cop in the robbery and recovered two months later in Tuscon, AZ.
It is nice to have a piece of history like this. Little things like this make a city interesting. That is worth whatever meager tax dollars went into setting up this display.

This is history. Why do some of you always have to be so negative? You always want to make things more than what they are. It's a gun, a Racine gun, from a Racine officer. It's part of history. Get over it. Thank you RPD for showcasing it so the public can see it.

My remark was not to be insentive to Halo - it is a great place for people in need. It was intended to show how stupid complaining about $10 is.

ReplyDeleteif anyone who has a negative comment in this blog would take a minute to look at the gun you maybe surprised. not only was the gun taken from a rapd sgt but it is signed by dillinger. the signature has been authenticated that it is dillenger's signature. the gun has been valued at over a million dollars, if you do not believe me ask anyone who works at the pd.
