Former COP house sold for $128,000

1009 Davis Place

The former COP House at 1009 Davis Place sold June 2 for $128,000.

Racine Community Outpost, a nonprofit, sold the house after the Racine Police Department moved its community policing officer to a new home at 1146 Villa St. last summer.

The Davis Place house was built in 1998. The city sold the land to Racine Community Outpost for $1. In return, Community Outpost built the home and rented it to the city for $1, before converting it into a home and selling it on the market.

Community Outpost has been in existence since 1993.

  1. What a waste these COP houses are. Another stupid Kurt Wahlen idea as crime in this city is out of control! How about selling some of those worthless cameras too?

  2. OBVIOUSLY A FREE GOVERNMENT LOAN! Who would pay that for a house there?

  3. Anon 10:33 - You say these houses are a waste, so let't see you quantify your comments in dollars. If you can't, you should not make such statements.

  4. The COP house program does not seem like the save all program. We need the police to crack down on gangs. We need parents and neighbors to help enforce peace in the neighborhoods by speaking up about problems and contolling their children.

COP houses might actually be useful if the Chief would mandate the COP Officers to work weekends and night hours.

These officers do not work at night, on weekends, and are rarely in those fancy new houses.

Then again, we all know that gang violence and crimes don't happen at night and weekends, so why should they work during these times(sarcasm for those who don't get it).

  6. Anon 8:38AM - You must be one of "Wahlen's Weasels". We keep buying house after house and camera after camera, yet crime keeps going up. We have a police department in complete chaos internally, yet Wahlen remains mum. I see Milwaukee Chief daily in the media, where the F*** is Wahlen? Has he EVER held a press conference or contact the JT or RacinePost? No, he hides in his little office so he isn't forced to show the community his incompetence. Racine deserves better!

  7. Now I have seen Wahlen speak. Why not invite him to speak to your group? or call him? The cameras are only as good as the people watching them. You have got to have trained eyes. The COP houses do not seem effective. The hours could be improved. Why not move a policeman's family into the house permanently? Then they would have more of a stake in the neighborhood. Where do the officers live?

  9. Anon 7:36 - just as I thought. You cannot quantify dollars - you just run off at the mouth. That's the problem with these blogs, people make wild statements but are never able to back them up. Don't waste our time with idiotic comments that offer no value.

  10. Anon 3:29 - Sure I would be happy to quantify as best I can. Taxpayers covered the utilities for this dump, subsidized the lost tax revenue from this property, and paid for the staff of worthless losers to sit in this place from 9-5. Our return on the investment? One of the highest crime rates in the state!

Wahlen's wisdom spent $50k on cameras for the city that do not work (by his own admission). Do these cops just sit and stare at the static waves all day on the monitors? I'm sure we have the safest parking lots and cemeteries though. Plenty of cops just sitting in there!

My guess is you are "young Polzin" and trying to carry on your failure father's legacy by supporting these stupid houses. Time for you to get out from under Wahlen's desk and both of you to get off the force!

You tell me in quantitative terms what value these cop houses have added to the community!

  11. I still don't see any numbers in your post - you are the one that said it is a waste - so prove it, what has it cost in dollars? And you are sure there ghas been no reduction in crime in these areas? And your guess is no better than your comments - not so.

  12. Anon 1:55 -

$3421.59 in taxes, $126.71 in electric, $224.78 in water, $85,000 x 2 for salaries = a lot. I don't know what you are smoking, but crime is rampant in this city and I don't see any decline in those numbers. Ask anyone in this city (aside from spaced out Wahlen and yourself) and they will tell you how bad it is.

You tell me some hard facts on crime and how its gone down. You also show me how Racine is getting value by keeping Wahlen and his cronies. We're paying out 6 figure salaries yet people are afraid to walk outside.

  13. Nice try on the numnbers and I'm not afraid to walk outside - do it all the time.

  14. Anon 9:12 - Where are your numbers supporting crime is down? I'm waiting. Why don't you take a walk down Memorial Drive or Jacato Drive one of these nights?

  15. Apparently Anon 9:12 is taking the Wahlen approach and staying silent when put in the hot seat!
