When Racine throws a party, everyone comes...
After putting on Racine's Post Prom for more than half a century, you can bet that Racine's Rotarians did it right again. What a party it was!
More than a thousand of the city's high school seniors and their dates showed up at Festival Hall -- arriving in fancy cars, buses, limos, you-name-it and wearing their best outfits for a night of dancing, karaoke, Guitar Hero, music and more. "Get Crunk Racine," said one of the DJ's slides; we have no idea what that means, but we're sure they did. And here are the pictures to prove it.

The Tv coverage was horrible this year. What a shame .... these kids got ripped this year.
ReplyDeleteTV was coverage was well below standard hard to watch. Interviews and camera coverage was not well coordinated. Racine we can do better! Use a script next time,if you did get a new writer/director 2010.
ReplyDeleteOh it was painful to watch, we had to turn it off. The coverage was, well, quite poorly done.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photographs! I didn't see the TV coverage, but glad you got some neat poses and overall scenes. What a photo bonanza!
ReplyDeleteFinally some pictures somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious: on the photo with the big screen, it says "get crunk racine".
What exactly is that - perhaps I am not "getting it" but it seems inappropriate to advertise to a bunch of high school kids.
TV coverage looked like it was done by middle schoolers. The guy form VH1/MTV was terrible too. Worst coverage of any year I can remember.
ReplyDelete"Crunk" means crazy + drunk or chronic (pot) + drunk.
ReplyDeleteSo then saying "get crunk racine" IS completely inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteNice job DJ - or whoever was responsible for this....
No money equals this kind of production. At least it happened and thank you to the city channel 25 for broadcasting it, it really is a great service and at least we could watch it! It wasn't as bad as you idiots make it out to be! It's not a million dollar budget, these guys pull this off on mostly volunteers, so be thankful in these tough times we saw it at all! I am. Thanks to the City and their channel 25
ReplyDeleteSome of those girls' mothers should have seen to it that they weren't quite so bare-breasted.
ReplyDeleteI could only watch 5 minutes of the TV coverage and had to turn it off. The grammar of the announcers was horrible. Racine's population is not 90% black although year after year the prom broadcast makes us out to look that way. What a shame and disappointment!
ReplyDeleteJudging from the photographs, not many of these students are interested in Eat Right Racine - also featured on the Racine Post web site.
ReplyDeleteHey 25. Bring back Gary! He understands sentence structure.
ReplyDeleteCrunk is basically drunk and drugs, geesh and you broadcasted that??
ReplyDeleteGreat service....great that CAR25 was able to broadcast. Time Warner's production was really not that good but remember these guys work this event for next to nuthin and it's not an easy job, live tv is rough. Be happy that we were even able to see it! It's really one positive this crappy city has, and be happy no one got shot!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure this was a TW production -- it said something like AV Media. Even their graphics were a mess "Your watching the Post Prom...". I think we have some RUSD students who could do a better job of presenting Post Prom for CAR 25.
ReplyDeleteVery strange show and if it was all you knew of Racine the impression would not be too positive.
Thanks for posting some photos here -- we can see the kids and some shots from inside.
Racine's population is not 90% black although year after year the prom broadcast makes us out to look that way. What a shame and disappointment!

What do you mean by this?
What's up with all the fat chicks?
ReplyDeleteGreat event put on once again by the rotarians - I do agree, bring back Time Warner. This years coverage was un-watchable.
ReplyDeleteThe Rotarians need to be aware that going with this
ReplyDelete"AV Production"(?) was a mistake! When it comes to grammar and the need to foster appropriate language through role modeling, theses VH-1 guys failed.
Gary Vallencourt, was missed. Even if these yahoo's
were FREE, "free", in this case, is the quality you get from a table at a rummage sale. We don't want the tape of the post prom.
Pictures will have to do. What a disappointment...bring last years BROADCASTERS back so parents have the luxury of having a tape of their
children at post prom.
Why are we allowing minors to "dance" like they are having doggie style sex? What father lets his daughter leave the house with that much cleavage exposed?
ReplyDeleteFirst off, If you want a tape of your childs prom, take it your damn self! Those people don't owe you or your child anything. These guys pull this off with virtually nothing and we all should be happy to view the thing anyhow....It really wasn't that bad. Let's be thankful could we? I agree the guy from VH1 and the other were not the best, but they tried something different from the old lamo's they've had in the past, live and learn but it really wasn't as bad as some of you idiots who don't have a clue make it out to be. Try saying thank you once in awhile and by the way I think the guy had recent grads interested in film and tv helping him out with the production.
ReplyDeleteAgain, the coverage was very disappointing. Talking to couples but showing the cars coming up and not the couple that is being interviewed. I missed seeing ALL the kids come in the door to check in. Only a few of the kings and queens were interviewed as well. I hope it is better when my youngest goes.
ReplyDeleteIn response to "tape your child your damn self". I wish I could have video taped by child but can't afford that kind of camera.
ReplyDeleteYou saying we should just say,"thank you",
some how "damn self" and "thank you" don't sound like words from a good, thankful, person.
Like the rest of the comments in this "post", I believe
the broadcast was poorly done and guidance should have been provided by the producers not the students that you feel are being blamed. Beauty is the eyes of the beholder so in your case "it's ALL relative". I hope your children are not subject to your language at home. I hope you acquire some tastefulness in your life time and
your children know the difference between a good performance and a bad performance and not follow in your foot steps.
To the old lady who said we should be thankful. Why were you not thankful for the lamo's from the past? You need to keep your thank you's distributed equally.
ReplyDeleteI think you should look in a mirror and see who the real LAMO is here? I hope Racine schools (private or public) aren't responsible for your education......

ReplyDeleteYes, we can and should expect more because we paid for this garbage! TAX DOLLARS pay for Channel 25 and we should expect better for our money.
This "B.D." clown was a complete idiot and should stick to hosting his late night shows on th BET network. I could hire a talking parrot to say the same "right on, right on" that he did. Wake up Racine and wake up Rotarians!
Get your facts straight before you type idiot....neither mine nor your tax dollars go for CAR25 you fool. Damn Racinians have got to be some of the stupidist people around.
ReplyDeleteHope the kids had a good time and I really enjoyed watching it! Can;t wait to see it again!

ReplyDeleteMaybe you should get your facts straight before shooting off your big mouth. Since I doubt you can perform any type of research here are some CAR25 links for you to review:
http://www.cityofracine.org/depts/CAR25/
"CAR 25 was originally run by a staff of volunteers, many of who were members of the city's Cable Commission. In July 2004, the city hired three part-time coordinators that work approx. 10 hours per week. These coordinators report to the Director of Information Systems."
Do you think magic pixy dust just falls into these 3 employees paychecks? No, that is TAX money paying their salaries!
http://www.cityofracine.org/depts/CAR25/media/PDF/policies_procedures.pdf
"CAR25 equipment and facilities are owned by the City of Racine and are reserved primarily for use by Racine City Staff and residents."
Who is the REAL moron here??
Rotary needs to put some class back into Post Prom 2010, this presentation was horrible, but we do need to respect and appreciate Rotary's commitment for the past 56 years! Thank you, get back on track for 2010.
ReplyDeletePROM WAS THE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete2009 BABY
Crunk is also a style of dance/music.

ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is that the Rotary Club needs to understand what people want, not a bunch of bashing here! The focus is the kids, and should be. They should hold 'auditions' for someone who can speak well, knows how to ask questions, etc. Or perhaps get a local news celebrity, like they do for parades?
ReplyDeletethe bottom line is, grow up, quit bickering like children, and let kids enjoy prom
ReplyDeleteFor all the planning that goes in this it's a shame there is so little involvement and very little money is given to support the efforts. I am not from Racine and think it is a great event for the kids. It was sad to hear there was little money from area businesses as well as Parents; this is not something that should just be expected. Takes money everyone didn’t have this year. Yes production was terrible, the man hosting in past years was charging, do we want that expence past on to our kids and families so people can sit and judge it at home? This year we had a return from Horlick, someone who gave of themselves to come back, I believe that what was said. And yes microphones and cameras that didn’t work, you could see before they even started they ran into big problems. The man in the parking lot had to call on a police man and ask for lights, I felt like I should have jumped in and helped him. It would be great to get the kids involved; some of the camera crew are high school kids, a great experience for them. For all that want to see it done by Time Warner I think that is great now back up your statements with donations to the people who give their time and help and start giving the money now....then next year there won't be so many worries to even keep it going. So many want to point fingers, few put their fingers to work. I say Thank you Rotary clubs of Racine for keeping it going in a hard time for everyone, and for each person who even gave 5 minutes to help. To those who sat back and want to complain next year I hope you will choose to step up and get involved verses sitting behind the TV and pointing your fingers.
