110 attend Flashinski Assembly race fund-raiser

Linda Flashinski, the Democratic challenger to Rep. Robin Vos, R-Caledonia, in the 63rd Assembly District, sent us the following campaign update:

About 110 people attended a recent fundraiser at the home of 63rd Assembly Candidate Linda Flashinski and her husband, Stan. The cookout/fundraiser was an opportunity for people to meet and mingle, to support the candidate, and to discuss issues. The attendees heard from State Sen. John Lehman, State Rep. Robert Turner and from the candidate. They talked about the need for change in the Assembly to address reform in health care, the economy, energy, the environment, education, and more.

Linda also thanked her supporters for their work in many areas, including the circulating of nomination papers. She noted that she had turned in approximately 900 signatures from both east and west of I-94. “This has been so encouraging to me,” Linda said of the fund-raiser. “We have to keep our focus on the importance of this race for the people of the 63rd Assembly District and Wisconsin if there is to be real action on the issues of our day.”

Linda has been busy at other county-wide events. She was in the Union Grove parade, attended the Kansasville Pancake Breakfast with her husband and even milked a goat in the County Fair competition against her opponent -- and actually won that contest. She has also attended many local fairs, musical events, meetings, and other area festivals.

But it is at doors that Flashinski says she has received the strongest input to drive her issues. “The top state issues I hear are the need for improvement in the economy, health care, jobs, energy policy, and environmental protection. People are the best source of wisdom to direct state policies and they know that we need new vision. It is very rewarding to talk with them.”

There's more information at her campaign website.

  1. Sounds wonderful.
Will you publish the same when it comes from Vos's camp?

  3. Relax ... we've been posting campaign press releases from candidates verbatim in recent weeks. Ryan, Vos, Flashinski, Garin, Krupp ... we're letting them get their message out.

  4. Glad to see the unfiltered stuff from the campaigns.

Looking forward to your compilations of the campaign funding reports in a few weeks. That's when it gets REAL interesting.

  5. Thats quite the house in the background. Racine Unified must have paid her well!

  6. If you count the people in the picture I only see about fifty....or is that the way Democrats and liberals count these days?

  7. Rep. Turner has been extremely active during this campaign cycle...attending events for Obama, other fundraisers, etc. I'm glad he's got the drive to help out fellow democrats.

However, why doesn't he have the drive to help out his constituents in Racine? I mean, when was the last time you heard Rep. Turner standing up in Madison and making a difference? You hear a lot about Mason / Lehman...but never anything from Turner. He's been in office since 1990...but what has he done?

  9. I for one count on Rep. Turner walking down the Racine 4th of July parade route with that tiny American flag a wavin'. I'd much rather see that than any legislation from this guy. He has not let me down in this regard for 18 years.

  11. For being "Democrats" the Flashinski's sure seem to live like "Republicans"! I'm sure their home is located in the inner city. If not, I'm sure they regularly invite their inner city constituents out to their home for meetings...

  12. Say what you will about the Dems. At least the party has recruited candidates for nearly every Assembly district this election cycle. Not all of their candidates will win (this Caledonia district is a perfect example) but the contests will keep the GOP resources stretched and give voters an honest-to-gosh choice. And, how can anyone object to that??

Meanwhile, because nobody in the GOP has the cajones to take on Turner or Mason, those two are getting a free pass this year. In a true democracy, no incumbent deserves a freebie.

  13. I will freely and proudly admit to being a supporter of Linda Flashinski and a true blue Dem, however I must respond to some of the comments here. A) Linda is married to a successful man; it certainly wasn't her salary at Racine Unified (which is a matter of public record) that bought this house. Linda became president of Racine Unified in 2000; they built the house in 92 and moved-in in 93. B) Linda has been a life-long volunteer for numerous community causes. She has a strong social conscience and understands the critical role volunteers play in contributing their time, effort, talent and mentoring for those less fortunate. C) Linda had a solid middle class upbringing where the value of hard work was emphasized and her roots in social awareness were nurtured by both parents. D) Her successful husband, Stan, was raised on a farm in Wisconsin. He too is well attuned to hard work and social justice. I hardly think having a successful and lucrative career should be cause for derision. I particularly take offense to the comment 'For being "Democrats" the Flashinski's sure seem to live like "Republicans"! As if Democrats can't realize the American dream. Even though the current trend in this country is for the Republicans to be reaping all the wealth (through such fiascos as Enron, mortgage crises, tax breaks, corporate greed, etc.) it hasn't always been that way. The names Kennedy and Rockefeller come immediately to mind. As for there being only fifty people shown in the photo - that is evidence of further shortsightedness by yet another 'Anonymous' poster (which I suspect translates to GOP- poster). You can barely make out who-is-who in the crowd from the angle and distance of this photo. To have been taken from an even greater distance . . . . Besides, the photo was being taken to commemorate an exhilarating, fun day. The photo-taker didn't anticipate that the photo would be used to provide photographic proof of the attendance. In addition, there were as many people inside the house, enjoying the wonderful food and the refreshing air conditioning, as there were outside. Trust me, there were 110 strong supporters at this event. And my final comment: why are people so reluctant to identify themselves when making snide remarks? I don't fall into that category therefore I am proud to say who I am - Glenda Alexander, Supporter of Linda Flashinski.

  14. SELF-CORRECTION: My comment just posted stated that Linda was president of Racine Unified, I meant to say president of the school board. Glenda Alexander

  15. I have to add a little something to this since I was there myself. It was my daughter-in-law who used my camera to take that photo at her home. There were many people left out of the shot for the sake of taking a nice overview of the whole place.
    In regards to anonymous #7 (so many afraid to say who they are you have to count which post I'm referring to--- so sad!);
Just exactly how many times has Vos "regularly invite their inner city constituents out to their home for meetings"?

How many of these inner city constituents has he invited to his wedding? He is getting married in his own district I would hope. It would not look good to go elsewhere to marry.....

  16. Flashinski has absolutely no chance to win. The district is one of the most conservative in the state and anyone who thinks that Flashinski will outwork Voss is kidding themselves.

He was at my door last month and after talking to my neighbors he already has this race in the bag.

  17. I had a door "card" left on my door from Robin Vos signed "Sorry I missed you, Robin" but I never saw him! He had some girl in a yellow VOS shirt placing it on doors of people who were not home.

For no other reason, it is time for a change in Madison. I've not been impressed by what I have seen from Robin Vos.

  18. Glenda - we know Stan bought the palace with the millions he made from Johnson Wax. They are hardly the working poor which make up most Democrats. I think Racine has had enough SCJ influence in politics and the school board is a perfect example.

  19. Tim,

Is this the Tim Daley that ran for this office last time? Sour grapes perhaps? Robin was at my door and I spoke with him so I don't know what you are talking about.

  20. Living like a Republican? I don't see how that can be the case, at least not if we take Vos to be the example of "living like a Republican."

Linda Flashinski actually LIVES in the district she's seeking to represent. Unlike Vos who just maintains his girlfriend in a condo in Caledonia.

But of course the Republicans want to talk about bullshit issues like a person's residence. They sure as shit don't want to talk about their record in Madison. Vos least of all.

  21. Vos married in the district? You've got to be kidding. He'd never risk that one of the many other women he's been sleeping with might show up and object. Run to Cali, honey!!
