We're hearing from people that Jameel Ghuari, head of the Bray Center in Racine, has taken out papers to run for City Council. Ghuari would run in the city's second district, which is currently represented by first-termer Robert Anderson.
That would not be the best idea. It would be entertaining to watch.

Knock and Drag
Bray Center issues
Bray Center issues
That is a sad fact.
ReplyDeleteKnock and drag here we come. Ghauri, or should I say Chucky Chambliss, is an embarrassment to the black community.
ReplyDeleteI guess that is one way to get cdbg dollars for the Bray Center. His buddy Fair tried to get the entire jail to vote for him last election, I wonder how many homeless votes he can drag in for this one? It looks like this election may be one of the nastiest on record and it wont be coming from the incumbents.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he can make the entire second district just like the Bray Center, a haven for gang bangers.
ReplyDeleteThen let us all join up and not let this go down.
ReplyDeleteTogether we can stop this.
We should also let the city know that we do not want to see the Bray Center get one more dime from the City until Ghuari is no longer the Director or has any part in it.
I can belive that the City can not find better places to put the block grant funds. Say Q.A's Boy Scouts or the New Girl Scout Troop on 6th St
or Gang education
Ghuari is set to receive over $20k in federal block grant dollars from the city this year. If he were elected alderman, he would be in violation of state statutes and federal grant rules. I wonder what he wants more, a seat on the city council, or the gravy train?
ReplyDeleteGhuari for alderman??? What a joke.
ReplyDeleteSo, Lumpkin gets his own article and everyone else is lumped into this one. Could that be because of the business relationship between the Post and the Insider News?
ReplyDeleteOr because Lumpkin sent out a press release. We'll write more about the City Council races ...
ReplyDeleteFair point, Dustin. I guess a better question would be to the other challengers: "Why no press release?"
ReplyDeleteRegardless of alleged motivations on the part of the candidates, having contested elections for local offices is a GOOD thing. Far too often, our city and county officials go unchallenged for election/re-election.
ReplyDeleteCall me old-fashioned, but I believe representative democracy is the best system going. BUT, it won't work without public involvement.
Contested elections are great, but only if the contestants are worthy of the positions.
ReplyDeletewhat we need in city government is more truth and justice for all JAMEEL GHUARI WILL BRING THAT AND MORE haters come out where ever you are stop hiding behind that white sheet ......oops of paper.
ReplyDeleteJAMEEL GHUARI will not withstand the light of day that this race will shed.
ReplyDeleteI myself would love to ask him questions on his knock and drag bussness.
I doubt the Journal Times would do this (or even think to do it), but someone should check out Jim Smith's past campaign finance reports at the city clerk's office. You will find SUBSTANTIAL payments to Jameel Ghuari for GOTV efforts. He paid almost $8000 in the Spring 03 election. There were other amounts in the past.
ReplyDeletePerhaps there are some investigative reporters in Racine?
I just happen to have campaine finance reports that I would be pleased to have the Post look at.
ReplyDeleteAs well I understand that there is a police report about a Brey Center Board member that makes interesting reading.
I question whether or not anyone commenting has ever been in the Bray Center, volunteered there or with the youth in question. Has anyone approached Jameel or created useful dialog on positive change and how it can be done?Further, I comend Jameel or any individual in this community becoming actively involved and known, even if people cast stones and judge.
