Jim Kaplan and Ken Lumpkin will be pulling double-duty this election season.
Kaplan, who sits on the Racine City Council, has taken out papers to challenge Lumpkin for his County Board seat.
The news comes less than a week after Lumpkin announced he was challenging Kaplan for his City Council seat.
It also sets up an interesting election for most voters in the city's Fourth Aldermanic District and the county's Fourth Supervisory District. The two districts largely overlap; map is the county district.
Voters will get to decide if one person should represent them on both elected bodies, or whether they should split their votes in hopes of both candidates winning an election.
The winner will not be the first person to serve on two bodies. Alderman and County Board Supervisor Q.A. Shakoor serves on both.
My money is on Jim.
ReplyDeletei have to agree, Jim may take both positions...
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Colt and Anonymous. Jim is an extremely hard worker and really cares about his District. This is his full time job. He is retired. His first concern is about the people of his district. Elect Jim for both positions. He cares and will always be there for you.
ReplyDeleteAs I have high respect for Mr. Lumpkin I feel that Jim will do the better job. He understands more about the City as a whole.
ReplyDeleteMr. Lumpken is doing great work with his newspaper helping the city that way.
This will be my only post concerning the alderman and county supervisor positions that I am seeking in the 4th districts on April 1st of 2008.
ReplyDeleteI do spell my name Kaplan. I have spelled it that way for over 59 years. I spent the first 20 years of my life 2 blocks north of the 4th Racine County Supervisory District's northern border.
I was gone from Racine for 2 years while I served on active duty during the Viet Nam era in the Naval Reserve. The Naval Reserve Center was at 212 Hamilton. I got my driver's license there also. I know this territory as it was, is, and can become in the future.
I have been retired from the City of Racine for over 4 years. I am a full-time representative.
I know this city's and county's 4th districts better than my opponent because I picked up its garbage, plowed and fixed its streets, and maintained its parks for over 28 years.
I am not a news media professional like my opponent. I don't have any personal interest in this or any other blog, either.
I am amazed that Mr. Lumpkin's picture is on this blog but after 8years, is it, his picture is absent from the Racine County's www.racineco.com site.
I do appreciate spell-check, but I don't need spell-check as you can see. I had many dedicated teachers at St. John's Lutheran School. I am grateful for the spelling tools they gave to me.
What better way can I repay the citizen's of this great city for my pension than by serving as their representative on city council and the county board?
This is my way of giving back to the people.
I guess we'll get that answer at the end of the day on April 1st, April Fools Day.
I rest my case. Who do you think is better suited to be your 24/7 alderman and county supervisor?
Jim's only accomplishment on the council was to get some two-hour parking spots outside of his house across from Janes School. He seems to work hard ... for himself.

Janes School,
ReplyDeleteYou are probably unaware of the fact that Jim and I withdrew our request for the parking places in front of our home as the Journal Times did not publish that story. Jim and I are great friends of Janes School, in fact, we both are invited to special events at the school. The teachers even stop by to see our new puppies. I am so sorry that you didn't get the straight story on the parking places. Both Jim and I hope that you have a very blessed New Year. God Bless You.
And so begin the anonymous attacks.
ReplyDeleteCompletely blowing things out of proportion in the process.
Hang onto your hats Jim & Julie, more and more negative slime will be hurled at you.
Dustin, I would HIGHLY recommend turning off anonymous comments from unregistered persons. That just promotes this kind of behavior.
