17-year-old injured in hit-and-run accident outside of Case High

A young girl is seriously injured tonight after being hit by a car as she left Case High School. The car was leaving the Marriot Hotel when it hit the girl. The driver didn't stop, but later returned to the police station. (The JT has a story here.)

The accident happened at about 2:40 p.m. Sarah Liberty, 17, had "very serious injuries," according to a statement from Mount Pleasant police. She was unconcious when paramedics first arrived, and was semi-conscious as she was taken away by Flight for Life to Milwaukee.

Witnesses told police that the car came out of the Marriot's parking lot onto Oakes Road, hit the girl and fled north before turning east onto Highway 20. Police interviewed two teenagers for the accident and took their car into evidence.

Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call (262) 884-0454.

  1. There are many allegations floating around that this horrific incident immediately followed a gang-related incident (fight) in the Marriot parking lot.

(As many are aware, students often move off of school grounds to have their altercations so they do not get suspended.)

There are credible witnesses that allege that the driver of the car was aiming for rival gang members and hit this innocent bystander instead. If this is true, it is indeed a true tragedy and not just an accident.

However, knowing what we know about the no-snitch policy, I don't imagine much of this will come out.

I do believe we need all the police departments to stop their jurisdictional in-fighting and work with the community and schools to remove the ever-increasing threat of gang warfare from our streets.

How many more innocent people have to be harmed before we realize we really DO have a GANG PROBLEM??

  2. As adults we need to set an example for our youth that community is the answer, not local wars. Mad mommy was right in saying that the police need to work together, but it shouldn't stop there. We all need to help Racine's youth instead of blaming everyone else. These children establish alliances with others just to harm those outside of their group. Can we teach them to use their friendships to help others?

  3. The County of Racine has eliminated their "jurisdictional in-fighting" by creating the Greater Racine Gang Task Force. It is made up of Racine County Deputies, City of Racine, Village of Mt Pleasant, Village of Sturtevant, FBI, ATF, and Probation and Parole. All of them a deputies in the County as well as with the FBI and U.S. Marshall's.

  4. sara liberty got no justice for almost being killed by this monster. she should have got jail time or had to suffer the way sara did. the girl was trying to run over another student and she blames sara for being in the way. SHE WAS STANDING IN THE GRASS!! there shouldnt have been a car in the grass. sara almost died because of her and nothing happened to her.
