The city issued eight commercial building alteration permits in April. They included:
* Kurk Concrete is building a "trussed - overwheel chair ramp" at 740 College Ave., the former YWCA building, which is now home to Kurt Sports Complex. The project's cost is estimated at $15,000. The permit fee was $180.
* Kotze Construction is making basement alterations to Tri City National Bank at 2704 Lathrop Ave. (formerly Bank of Elmwood). The alterations are estimated at $1,400. The permit cost $60.
* Emile Mathis, of Mathis Gallery at 246 Main St., is remodeling his gallery's facade. The project is estimated at $4,000. The permit cost $60.
* Bane Nelson is repairing columns at the Racine Zoo. The project is estimated at $4,370. The permit cost $60.
* Horlick High School is renovating its soccer field bleachers. The project is estimated at $5,000. The permit cost $60.
* Mark Hyde is building a 20x29-foot deck at the REC Center at 1301 W. Sixth St. The project is estimated at $5,000. The permit cost $60.
* Mike Ottelein is renovating an 8x8-foot toilet room at 3208 Washington Ave. The project is estimated at $1,000. the permit cost $60.

Building Permits: Gateway working on $371,000 renovation to student service center
Gateway Technical College is working on a $371,000 renovation to its Student Service Center on the school's Racine campus.
Rasch Construction and Engineering, of Kenosha, is heading the remodeling job, which was by far the largest commercial project in Racine in March.
The city issued four commercial building permits last month for an estimated $393,000 in construction. The city made $4,728 in fees on the permits.
Gateway received its building permit on March 30 and paid $4,452 for the permit. The project's address is listed as 1001 Main St.
Other permits issued in March include:
* 1514 Junction Ave., an interior and exterior renovation by Lucky's Carpentry. Extimated cost: $10,000. Permit fee: $120.
* 1934 Lathrop Ave., 6x24-foot covered porch area behind Teezers by Precise Contracting. Estimated cost: $4,000. Permit fee: $60.
* 1220 Mound Ave., second floor office remodel by Rossi Construction. Estimated cost: $8,000. Permit fee: $96.

Building Permits: Playmakers invests $100K in West Racine; Country club, All Saints build in December
Playmakers, a new shoe and clothing store in West Racine, is investing significant money into its new building at 3216 Washington Ave. Kevin Jones Builders took out a $100,000 permit on Dec. 18 to remodel the space. The city permit cost $2,052 $1,200.
The Racine Literacy Council began remodeling its office in December. Katt Construction took out a building permit on Dec. 15 to remodel the council's 1,830-square-foot office at 734 Lake Ave. The job was estimated to cost $24,000. The city permit cost $288.
The Racine Country Club's Pro Shop is getting a facelift. Bukacek Construction took out a building permit on Dec. 18 to remodel the shop at 2801 Northwestern Ave. The remodel is projected to cost $30,000 and the city permit cost $360.
The Blind Alligator Tavern, 1922 Sixteenth St., had some work done. James Hansen took out a building permit on Dec. 8 for a $2,000 renovation. The permit cost $60.
Offices at All Saints hospital had remodeling done in December. Riley Construction took out a $12,000 building permit on Dec. 8 to remodel Suite 230 in Professional Building B, 3801 Spring St. The city permit cost $144.
