Volunteer Opportunities: Help library with new Job Lab
RACINE PUBLIC LIBRARY JOB LAB
The Racine Public Library is opening a Job Lab on the second floor. Volunteers are needed to assist job seekers with searching and applying for jobs, writing resumes, applying for benefits and basic computer skills. Training and materials will be provided. Basic computer skills are required and resume writing experience is preferred.
VOLUNTEERS FOR BAKE SALE AT FARMERS MARKET
The HOPES Center will have a bake sale at the Downtown Racine Farmers Market on Saturday, June 5. Volunteers are needed to work the stand at State and Erie from 7 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and also from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
BAKERS AND PRICERS NEEDED FOR HOPES CENTER FUND RAISER
Donations of homemade baked goods are requested for the HOPES Center bake sale on June 5. Pies, sweet breads, cookies, cakes, loaves of bread, and rolls can be dropped off at the HOPES Center at 506 7th Street on Friday, June 4, until 7 p.m., or brought to the sale at State and Erie on Saturday morning starting at 6:30 a.m. Items should be placed on a paper plate in a baggie and labeled if they contain nuts. Help pricing items is needed on June 4 from 5-8 p.m.
RELAY FOR LIFE VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
This year’s annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life event is scheduled for Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12. There are several areas that need volunteers to make these two days a successful fundraiser as well as a celebration of lives and lives lived. Shifts are available.
PARTY ON THE PAVEMENT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
Sixth Street Players are holding a Brat Fry fund raiser during Party on the Pavement, October 2nd, at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth Street, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed to staff the concession booth and to usher the theatre performances. Two and four hour shifts are available. Party on the Pavement in Downtown Racine has become the city's premier street festival. The Sixth Street Theatre participates yearly in this event with FREE theatre and a concession stand selling Brats, Hot Dogs, Chips and Soda.
RADD DANCE CLUB EVENT
Recreational Activities for the Developmentally Disabled (RADD) needs volunteers to help check in participants who are attending the RADD Dance Club Event at 3131 Taylor Avenue. You may also be asked to help monitor the dance area and socialize with the participants. Event meets every second Tuesday of the month from 6 - 8 pm. Volunteers will meet at least 15 minutes prior to dance starting. Other duties may include cleaning up tables, removing and discarding soda cans and other items after the event. May also take down table and put into storage area. Must be 17 years or older with a clear communal history. Experience with special needs individuals beneficial.

Volunteer Opportunities: Kiwanis's 56th Annual Pancake Day; Fishing clinic
KIWANIS’S 56TH ANNUAL PANCAKE DAY
It’s a Kiwanis’s tradition! Saturday, May 1, and volunteers are needed in all areas of set up and serving for this pancake and sausage meal and hometown community event! There are four shifts for you to choose from; one will surely fit your schedule. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Special note: Volunteers are also needed for table and chair set up on Friday, April 30, 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Those who assist will receive a free ticket for Pancake Day.
ANNUAL FREE KIDS’ FISHING CLINIC NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!
Salmon Unlimited is once again sponsoring the Free Kids’ Fishing Clinic on Saturday, April 10, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Quarry Lake Park, 3540 Northwestern Avenue. Help is needed during the hour-long clinics and to serve free hot dogs and soda. All fishing equipment is provided. Sign up for the 9:00 a.m. to noon or noon to 3:00 p.m. shifts or stay all day!
CRIME STOPPERS OF RACINE COUNTY NEEDS GOLF OUTING VOLUNTEERS
Wednesday, May 26, is the date for the 17th Annual Crime Stoppers Golf Outing at South Hills Country Club, Frontage Road in Franksville. This fundraiser supports crime prevention information and provides money for individuals who provide tips leading to criminal capture and conviction. Shifts are available for both indoor and outdoor activities. Indoor responsibilities include silent auction table set up and raffle ticket sales. Outdoor assistance is needed with golfer registration and event hole monitoring.

Volunteers must have a clear speaking voice, an ability to take messages, and be friendly. Other duties may be requested. Three hour shifts are available between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The facility is handicapped accessible.

Curriculum includes wellness, education, employment, family support, financial literacy, health, housing, personal development, transportation, arts and crafts. Volunteers will work at 1501 Albert St, Racine. Days and times to volunteer are flexible. Background checks will be necessary. When calling RYOCF, please indicate which curriculum area you are interested in working with.
HELP SUPPORT OUR TROOPS OVERSEAS
Lincoln Lutheran’s Becker Shoop facility needs volunteers to assist with sorting coupons for the overseas Military program. So far, they have been able to send over $18,000 worth of coupons for the service people stationed in Japan. This can be a work-at-home project.

You Can Help! Local volunteer opportunities
I met someone this week, who, like so many people in Racine, was looking for a job. He had interesting strategy, though. Along with networking, looking on the Internet and filling out resumes he had three regular volunteering jobs. He figured with free time during the day, and a chance to build skills while helping out local nonprofits, volunteering was not only a helping activity, it was a good career move. It seems to be paying off. He had one interview this week and his eye on 3-4 more jobs that look promising. Part of the success, he said, came from volunteering.

JOIN THE RED CROSS FIRST AID SERVICE TEAM
The American Red Cross First Aid Service Team (FAST) is a group of volunteers trained in first aid and CPR that provides immediate care for illnesses and injuries at community events. All training is provided free of charge as well as free entrance and parking at events. All you need to do is be available to staff a minimum of 25 hours at events during the season.
SELF CHECKOUT VOLUNTEERS FOR THE RACINE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Racine Public Library, 75 7th Street, has openings for individuals interested in assisting library patrons with the new self-checkout machine. Volunteers will greet, direct, and help individuals as they learn the new system. The hours are flexible, 2-3 hours per shift. Training and parking reimbursement are offered.
VOLUNTEER GUARDIANS WANTED FOR
AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE NETWORK
Individuals who are 21 or older are encouraged to volunteer 3-6 hours per month serving in the role of Volunteer Guardian. Guardians are appointed by Probate Court to make sound and dignified decisions for individuals unable to do so for themselves. Clients may include the physically or developmentally disabled or elderly. Applicants will be required to fill out an application and pass a background check.
IN HOME VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE NETWORK
Those 18 and older are invited to become part of the Senior Services Volunteer Companion program through the Aging and Disability Resource Network. Individuals provide a few hours per week relief to in-home care givers. Complete training and support is provided. A little bit of your time and compassion will benefit those who give non-stop care!
INTERGENERATIONAL FAIRS
The Intergenerational Fairs is an ongoing program in cooperation with RSVP. Fair organizers need YOU to help keep this 20 year plus tradition alive. If you are over 55 and you have a hobby you would like to share with elementary aged school children several times per year, please call. In this age of computers and technology, hand crafts and hobbies are a novelty. Share your talents. The kids love it!
GIFT SHOP ASSISTANT
The Racine Zoological Society, 200 Goold Street, is looking for volunteers to assist with stocking and straightening merchandise, cleaning windows, shelves and displays. Must be able to work well with children. Would like to have 2 volunteers May through September starting on weekends. References required.
