Racine Uncovered broke news on homicide suspect's arrest

Local crime news website Racine Uncovered broke a big story over the weekend when they identified Wilbert Thomas as the suspect in the homicide of Sandra Teichow.

The site reported the news Saturday after learning Thomas was booked into the Racine County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Homicide and other charges. He's due in court today.

Since breaking the news, Beth at Racine Uncovered has continued to dig into Thomas' criminal past. He's been through previous competency hearings, but found to be sane. They then found a Court of Appeals ruling that freed Thomas in 1999 after the District Attorney's office was three days late in filing a petition to having him committed as a sexual predator.

In its most recent story, Racine Uncovered found that Thomas had three previous convictions for sexual assault starting in 1965 when he inappropriately touched a 9-year-old Racine girl.

  1. Can anyone say anything about the reports that others have been attacked by Jefferson Lighthouse?

  2. This guy is scum plain and simple, and he played with the judicial system one too many times. If someone would not have reinstated his bail on October 8, 2010, that woman may be alive today. Thanks for the vote of confidence post!

  8. Anon, are you stating that Racine Uncovered is a Dickert Cronie??? LMAO I can guarantee you I am NOT on his BFF list. Ididn't vote for him, don't like the way he "represents" the everyday people and doesn't have a clue about what really happens in this town. I would like to run for mayor against him so I can debate him.

  11. I need to keep up with Racine Uncovered more often. I too have been following this story since day one as I know the people who found the Mrs. Teichow's body. I have since been thinking and writing about it a lot. I have heard from several of her friends and relatives and am certain she is deserving of a biography. Her life was much more than her tragic end.

I too noticed as soon as the suspect's name was released that there were 2 petitions to commit him which were denied by 2 different judges. This angers me on many levels.

  13. I wish Wisconsin had the death penalty. Wilbert Thomas should never walk the streets again. Our court system failed to protect us again by allowing this man freedom to walk the streets of Racine, WI - No More - No More - No More.....

  14. I am so sick of the paper completely failing to investigate crime and simply accepting what is spoon fed them. In addition I wish the police would explain why they withhold information from the public for no apparent reason. I still wonder to this day about the man that was murdered in his back yard on Wood road. Did I completely miss any resolution on that one? Thank you Racine uncovered!

  15. Don't blame the police, they don't release information during on going investigations, until all their i's are dotted and t's are crossed. In all honesty they probably should have said right away Saturday morning that someone had been arrested on homicide charges. But they were waiting on additional information. RPD did rock, only thing that concerned me was the fact that the PR guy at the PD said that the public shouldn't be concerned and this was an isolated case. This POS had been walking the city streets for decades. I will only take it for what it's worth but I have a feeling that Wilbert Thomas has committed more crimes and hasn't gotten caught. There is an unsolved murder that I would like to see if Wilbert was responsible for in Racine. General area and same MO

  16. I need to know if anyone ever saw Wilbert Thomas hanging around the Alon Club and or the Grove Club, any information can be emailed to me at crime@racineuncovered.org. He would have been hanging out there in 2007 or 2008. Any information would be helpful

  17. If W Thomas was non-complaint with his Sex Offender registry rules since back on May 31st, wondering if there was an arrest warrant out for him - and/or if W Thomas was merely one of the 500+ active felony warrants that are not acted on. It would seem obvious that if someone that prsents such a danger to our community should merit more than a "letter" from the DOC some 4 months ago.

  18. A warrant was issued for him back in June, he was in custody mid-july posted a signature bond and was released. Had some problems with court in September and appeared before Racine County Courts October 8,2010 they reinstated his signature bond and out the door he went, and in less than a week he murdered someone. He had problems with registering with the sex offender register in September 2002, a warrant was filed, he got arrested, posted a signature bond and one he registers with the SO list the chargers were dismissed.
