New polling place in city's Second District

Just a reminder to the city's Second District residents: You vote in a new place.

The city moved its polling place on the near south side - some call it the Towerview neighborhood - from Stephen Bull Fine Arts Elementary School to the John Bryant Community Center, 601 21st St.

The first election at the new site will be held Tuesday. Second District voters will elect an alderman, three members of the Racine Unified School Board and two judges.

You can vote Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you can't make it Tuesday, you can vote today by absentee ballot at City Hall, 730 Washington Ave. until 4:55 p.m.

  1. Pah-leeze - tower view neighborhood? Surely there must a better name for the area. When I first heard this demeaning term a few years back I presumed it originated from some community-involved big-thinkers at SCJ who define their world in terms that flatter their own importance. How presumptuous to think that the "little people" who live in the historic district approve of their neighborhood being renamed in terms of what the elite at SCJ can gaze at when atop their fabulous research tower.

  2. I have to agree with you anon 7:02 pm. The name is terrible. I live in the area and the residents were not given an opportunity to vote or respond to this label of "Tower View" which in my opinion has the sound of a prison yard.

It is my understanding it is a name thought up by an employeed at NHS - they then just decided to force it on us.

And btw, I do not have a "view" of the elitist tower from my house.
