Kuko Padilla's annual bike jam at Pershing Park will be Sept. 4 from noon to 10 p.m.
Padilla has been the lead volunteer at Racine's skateboard park for the past decade. Every year he holds a bike jam to mark the end of the summer season and give everyone who uses the park one more chance before school starts to get together. The event features food, bands and lots of riding.
The city is acknowledging Padilla's efforts to maintain the skate park by waiving the $385 rental fee for the park. They consider the fee offset by the work and materials Padilla donates throughout the spring and summer to keep the park running. The Common Council's Finance and Personnel Committee approved waiving the fee with little discussion. It heads to the full council for final consideration next week.
