The cartoon @ RacinePost.com
Today, RacinePost introduces a new feature: Our own editorial cartoon, focusing on local issues. It is drawn by Paul Berge, a longtime Racine area resident, and will appear irregularly, as the spirit moves Berge, and us.
Berge's political cartoons have been distributed to publications around the country by Q Syndicate since 1998, appearing in the L.A. Times, Out Magazine, and Chicago Free Press. He also drew the weekly editorial cartoon for the Business Journal of Greater Milwaukee from 1997 to 2005. Prior to that, he drew for the Journal Times, and for the student newspapers of the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and at Parkside, and his alma mater, St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
His blog is online at bergetoons.blogspot.com.

Great feature, and this one's nicely done. Ryan's tax credit would cover, say, maybe a fraction of the real cost of the average family's health insurance bill. OK for the wealthier, hale-and-hardy. Not much help for the less affluent or those in ill health with pre-existing conditions that aren't covered.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you've added Paul Berge. He's a very talented cartoonist - will bring a bright, targeted perspective to your pages!
ReplyDeleteOf course, Pete, some of your detractors will probably hate him right away. LOL
Paul is really talented - great addition!
ReplyDeleteHi Paul,
ReplyDeleteLong time since grade shool at Fratt and Stage Right. Great to see you are still around and making things interesting.
Tim
Glad to see you went out to find a cartoonist with the same left lean you have. How about some equal time with a right leaning cartoonist?
ReplyDeleteAdding a cartoonist is neat. Should of known you would pick at Ryan. Is he practicing drawing Vos and Mac next?
ReplyDeleteTypical Post agenda.
ReplyDeleteAnother stunning piece of objectivity from The Post.
ReplyDeleteI was on the fence about the right of Center news blog some are talking about doing. Thanks for helping me make up my mind.
ReplyDeleteSee, Pete? Told ya it wouldn't take long for some of your loyal readership to start hating on Mr. Berge.
ReplyDeleteStopthemadnessNOW: Nor were we surprised. Editorial cartoons are supposed to make a sharp point, and if they don't get one side or the other angry, they've probably missed the mark.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure, over time, Paul will skewer whoever deserves it.
As for The Translator's comment, Colt's and all the other negative Anons: We didn't seek out Paul because he leans this way or that. Frankly, we don't know or care -- as long as his cartoons are funny and on the mark.
But if you have another top quality cartoonist willing to take on local issues, send him my way. You know where to reach me.
In the meantime, lighten up. It's a cartoon, for goodness' sake!
Be careful... Pete might report us all to flag@whitehouse.gov!
ReplyDeletePete would never allow a non pro health care cartoon lets be real. I am all for fairness and don't mind political cartoons. Coming from you guys and it being one about Ryan, is what I expected.
ReplyDeleteI would be very surprised if you allowed your buddies to be made fun of. Lehman, Mason, Doyle, Turner, Obama, Dickert. Any of those to start.
The cartoon is right out of Joel McNally's Shepherd - so far to the left that if pushed, cannot fall to the left side.
